Graduate Program in Informatics (PPGIa)


The Graduate Program in Informatics (PPGIa) at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUCPR) is one of the four Stricto Sensu programs at the Polytechnic School. PPGIa started its activities in August 1996 with the launch of its master's program. It is one of the oldest programs in Computer Science in the southern region of Brazil. It was recommended by CAPES in 1997. Its first thesis was defended in November 1998. By the end of 2024, the program had 384 master's theses defended. The doctoral program began in August 1998, with the first doctoral thesis defended in June 2001. The doctoral program was recognized by CAPES in 2006. By the end of 2024, the program had 111 doctoral theses defended. In 2004, the program reached level 4. In 2016, it achieved level 5 and has maintained this status in subsequent evaluations. By the end of 2024, the program had 57 master's students, 46 doctoral students, and 6 postdoctoral researchers.

Master's Degree

  • Reached the milestone of 100 defended dissertations in August 2004.
